is it just me or was there a vast collection of indian shows here in viki, but now most of them are gone. and the ones that remain are either uninteresting shows (i’m not going to call any names) or cannot be accessed or are mostly fan channels that never got a license. someone make a petition for viki to include more indian shows and movies. i would love to see that. bollywood movies and tv shows are actually the bomb okay. they come second in line when compared to east asian dramas.
I was planning to watch one the other day that perked my interest, but its gone. I ventured to Netflix, and seen a bunch there, so thought I would start watching. not just Indian, I don’t see much Spanish here either. the fan channels are not a good one, and what bugs me, no subs again!

I have a huge collection of Indian films - most of which on DVDs bought in India, in various places, from Delhi and Chennai to Mysore to some obscure Kerala towns. But here at viki almost nothing Indian is licensed for my region (Europe) so I don’t even bother anymore.
Indians make greatly entertaining films and some excellent ones, but their TV shows are very lacking in my opinion.

yes! i would totally love to see more telenovelas here!!! also, i think the videos for fan channels cannot be subbed anymore due to licensing issue so that sucks

yes exactly! there are so many high quality bollywood movies out nowadays, i wish viki could get license for those but they’re focused on east asian dramas, and im not really mad about that. and haha indian serials are on another level. i don’t know about lacking, but they’re just on another level. the special effects, and the extra-ness of the characters just kill me

broccoli; I can watch a bunch of them on netflix. and they are subbed too, that goes for spanish, german etc. yeah this is taking away from viki. watching an indian one now , the girl is the savior or something to that effect, kinda good, she battles the bad guys. , the other is a guy, keresh? I think., and its the good guy battling the bad guys. these two are my first to watch so lets wait and see.
I watched 1 movie and started another movie this weekend:
- Kabhi Kushi (I got the impression I saw 2 movies. Liked to see traditions, except marriage of convenience and some strange sentences: “My mother taught me a husband is like a god. I shall agree with him and never argue.”)
- Love per squarefoot (quite the opposite with the first title. This one is modern with cultural problems. Maybe the way the story was built was more what we are used to watch. I want to watch the end.)
Both movies are +2 hours.

They sing and dance a lot, like a lot. Men sing, women answer by singing. Songs translations are really important because they sing like they talk: they express their feelings or thoughts in singing.

Indeed, they mix English and Hindi. When they speak Hindi, English subs appear and when they switch to English, English subs disappear!

A lot of Bollywood was originally inspired by musicals so like most of the old Hindi movies are actually musicals…keep that in mind and enjoy

I thought just like Korean show, the names of Bollywood movies also must be englishized for international fans.

On the streaming app I watched it:
No translation on the app, but if I look for the title, Google shows me the title in French like “The Indian family.” I don’t know if that’s the correct translation.
On Viki, Goblin is translated as “Gobelin” in my language, which is correct.
I don’t know on Viki if:
- all titles are translated
- in main languages only?
According to Google Translate the title means “Sometimes happiness, sometimes sorrow”.

Luckily their English is understandable, unlike in Chinese and Korean media.
I recently watched one called “Dear Zindagi”, which you may like because it’s not a romance, it’s a girl and her psychologist who helps her figure out stuff. I could swear 50% was English.

Let me add two films as well.
PK Story about an alien who visits Earth but is trapped inside the religious beliefs of people in India and finds it difficult to return back because of one such belief.
Kabhi Alvida Na Kahna (Never say goodbye) I’d just say, if you like to cry while watching movies, this should lead the list of such movies.

I also love the movies but I did enjoy one tv show that viki previously had: Geet. For some reason the show disappeared though. It would be awesome if they would bring it back. Like I am almost desperate to see that drama again. I found the videos at another site but I definitely need subs to understand what is going on.

I worked on Geet (long while back) here at viki [English/Spanish subtitles] and was also upset when the drama disappeared with no explanation. I have been looking for it at other sites with no luck since we were almost at the ending when it was rudely taken out. I had no closure since I don’t know how it ends 
I don’t know if it was the same drama since I can’t remember the rest of the title (it wasn’t only Geet that much I remember) Well, we might not be talking about the same indian drama

Just curious, were there enough people to translate from Hindi to English back then?

I don’t think so, but we had a person that worked endlessly, tirelessly in this indian dramas. It was her obsession, and she made sure those tamil (not hindi) to English subtitles were done very fast. I don’t know if she’s around here anymore, but if I’m not mistaken she went by the name of rosemarythyme.
