There have been many threads here since the dual subtitles feature was removed, and I decided to unofficially bring it back. As a chrome extension. Please try it and give me feedback!
Here are some instructions (there are no hints within the extension itself yet):
Make sure you are not using https but http (there is a techical issue with https that I’m looking to solve) by editing the address bar. If the address field says neither http nor https then I think http is in use. Good.
Wait for the video to begin playing.
Click the blue button that says ‘MoST Subtitles’ next to the address field.
You should hopefully see more subtitles now. Refer to the image above. If this process fails, reload the page and try again from step 4, and try isolate the cause of error if you eventually succeed; and file a bug report.
man! I thought they brought it back as a feature in the actual player
when they do this they should make this feature available for sub and seg editors too!
oh you created it?!
if the channel manager is viki it is basically a free for all.
i would hope that your talent to make our playground (viki the site and the tools) better. But this is the first time I ever met a cs person who could even do it.
This dual subtitling is interesting, I probably didn’t know it was there before, let me guess this works probably only with pc since you need that extension. At last Im still very unhappy with the new player, it’s very hard to control the feature icons even like either forward or rewind at a certain time since the time numbers have a very tiny spot to click on, I spend more time navigating it. Im on android tablet now, once I get a running pc I shall try that, that’s really interesting for a language learner Thanks for taking time to create this.
Currently only Korean subtitles can be displayed by the extension. It’s a matter of me learning to make a settings page. If you open background.js you will see the lines
var subtitleURL = 'http://downsub.com/index.php?title=' + id +
"&url=http%3A%2F%2Fviki.com%2Fko"; // <--Korean subtitles
//"&url=http%3A%2F%2Fviki.com%2Fen"; // <-- English subtitles
and you can make a small change there if you like.
thank you so much for making it.
I haven’t had time to try this feature out. I am sure that it will make editing any show with a Korean captioner a breeze!
Just press play and voila. I have told glykeria poster up there about it for… he wished for it so much.
You are the best!
EDIT: It pays beautifully but follows the scrolling. was that intentional?
still need to check it how it looks in the sub and seg editor
Oh wow! This is the first time I’ve ventured into V-discussion, and I struck gold! This is exactly what I’ve been looking for! Thank you so much. Appreciate your hard work and ingenuity. I will try it out.
Without a list of available videos, it’s not so useful. I tried searching videos manually, by sorting by subtitles language, but it was too frustrating, because Viki invariably misrepresents subtitles’ percentages.
