Ora, siccome sei fresca e nuova di zecca, i moderatori italiani (quelli che gestiscono i gruppi di volontari) non hanno idea di come tu traduci. Può darsi che tu sia un gioiello, oppure che ti manchi l’esperienza e abbia bisogno di fare un po’ di pratica guidata da uno più vecchio. Perciò una serie on-air (che ora è in onda) non è il posto più adatto per fare la primissima prova. Lì i tempi sono molto stretti, il pubblico aspetta con ansia di vedere la traduzione finita subito, e se c’è nel gruppo una traduttrice inesperta che fa molti errori, ci vuole molto per l’editing.
Ti propongo dunque di cominciare con calma su qualcosa di meno impegnativo. Un progetto già finito e tradotto in inglese.
Per cominciare, potresti leggere questi due documenti che ho preparato.
Il primo è un breve manuale di avvio per il nuovo traduttore.
Il secondo sono le linee guida per la traduzione italiana che ho compilato e uso nei miei gruppi. Ma anche quelle usate da altri moderatori non sono molto diverse.
Il terzo è dedicato ai modi di dire inglesi (che non devono esser tradotti tali e quali, come ad esempio “it’s a piece of cake = cosa molto facile da fare” e non “è un pezzo di torta” - tranne naturalmente se vedi che nella scena c’è effettivamente una torta) e i falsi amici (parole che sembrano uguali però non hanno lo stesso significato nelle due lingue, come ad esempio l’inglese “realize”= rendersi conto e l’italiano “realizzare” = creare, costruire) ecc.
Il modo più semplice di trovare dei progetti non è cercare tra le centinaia di serie presenti su Viki e guardare, una per una, qual è tradotta in italiano e quale no, bensì di trovare (sulla prima pagina delle serie) dei nomi di moderatori italiani e scrivere una bella lettera a tutti quanti per chiedere se hanno un progetto in cui serve aiuto. Puoi mandarla a tutti allo stesso tempo mettendo i loro nomi separati da una virgola.

We mostly translate from English to a language we speak. Knowledge in English and your targeted language is necessary to translate.
If you’re interested in subtitling, you can:
- Look for a drama that doesn’t have subs in your language and contact directly the Arabic moderator and the French moderator in charge of recruiting subbers.

If you see no moderator, contact directly the channel manager.
- a new subbing Academy has opened for French, you can enroll here.
A volunteer will help you in subtitling in French with less mistakes, with the formatting and you’re free to ask any questions.
I think for a new subber, it will be pretty much helpful to have a guide for your first steps on Viki.
Plus, the badge earned at the end of this program is a token of trust in the eyes of recruiters.
