Hello,
Is the above list an updated list? I don’t have any ongoing projects so I may be interesting in helping transcribe. What kind of pre-requisites does a transcriber need to have? I’ve done segmenting and English editing in the past so I understand how the subbing and segmenting tools work but just want to ensure I’m volunteering for something I can do. Is it exactly what it sounds like? As in, typing the hardsubbed words into the corresponding segments?

If you are interested in H.I.T. or Woman of Matchless Beauty, Park Jung Kum, we are still looking for transcribers! Transcribing is exactly what you said. To transcribe, you only need to be able to write English. Having segmenting experience will actually help, too, because the hardsub timings tend to be off. The segmenters correct the timing in the Viki subs, so it’s easier to transcribe when you are able to understand which segment goes to which hardsub.

I just went, out of curiosity, to Woman of Matchless Beauty, Park Jung Kum, and checked ep.1 and 2 in 4-5 places each, when people were talking. I even went to Subtitle Editor.
There were no hardsubs. How is this possible?

Item 4 - A Swordsman in the Wilderness -

I am still hiring experienced and/or new but fluent Chinese (Mandarin) to English subbers there and we could use 1 more Ninja Certified (FULL graduate) over there for segmenting - for subbing, contact me (deadliftdiva_548). For segmenting, contact me OR Mirna (mirna023_316). Please note also you may be asked to audition for either subbing or segmenting, yes, even NSSA grads audition.

Please note: Do not just show up and start working on our project! (sigh). ASITW is a Ming Dynasty historical with some archaic language and extensive Team Notes already and you MUST ask and be vetted for skills and then be committed to coming in and working with this project. With a historical project, context matters greatly! If you are not consistently working with this project, you will not get the lines in correctly!

This project requires fluency for both Mandarin and English, if you have this high-level skill set and want to give it a try, please contact me. :slight_smile: We would love to add more subbers to this one.

I also have one more project currently subbing with similar needs - again, it takes a pretty high level in both languages to get it correct. On that one, I have a TE who is subbing also at present, so there is someone to refer to if you get stuck thankfully. :slight_smile: But it still takes a commitment to the project and a good fluency in both languages. (No promises about NOT running into MORE SANSKRIT over at that one…! and well, long-winded Shaolin…Ammmitttttaaaabbbhhhhaaaaa.)

(I don’t take up the easy projects as CM…I guess seeing my name in the CM block should be a fair warning that all of us (definitely including me, for I am no absentee-CM!), will be working hard on a good, challenging drama! :slight_smile: )

What is the bonus of working on ASITW? Well…I have FOUR pending projects, live fan channels listed in 2017, all of which are really good new Chinese historical/costume dramas. If you are new to subbing and have the skill set to make it work, make your name at ASITW and we will definitely talk to you about the others when we get the licenses! :slight_smile: Show us your good skills and your good work ethic - and we will definitely want you for bigger and newer things…!
